Sampson Cay to Staniel Cay

Monday we all headed out of the marina to different places. We moved on to an anchorage near Big Major's Spot, right near Staniel Cay. Carleigh and our friends on Independence, My Sharona, Different Drummer, Mattina, and Scooter were all at that anchorage.

You may remember the photos taken the last two years of the swimming pigs that live on the island that come out to boater's dinghy's to receive scraps.

The first night we arrived, plans had been made for a pot luck cocktail hour on the beach which turned into a campfire with us singing Christmas Carols. What a plesant way to spend an evening. (Do kids learn Christmas carols at school anymore - if not - where do they learn them?)

We took our dinghy over to Staniel Cay to visit the Pink and Blue Markets. They are actually painted pink and blue. Due to the bad weather the week before, the supply boats had not made it so stocks were low. The fuel boat had also not made it and all the marinas in the area were all short of gasoline for dinghy's and the local fishing boats. Some were also out of diesel. As a matter of fact, we had been told about the shortage when we were at the Exuma Land and Sea Park. It was limiting the patrols the park warden could make until fuel arrived. When the fuel boat came in to Staniel, there was a collective cheer in the anchorage. Luckily, we still had plenty of gas, so the shortage did not effect us. You just have to be prepared for things like this.

On Christmas eve day we moved over to an anchorage right off the docks of the Staniel Cay Yacht Club so we could easily get in for their Christmas eve dinner.
We had made reservations to have dinner with Rita-Kay and Clay at the SCYC and we were looking forward to that. We had a great dinner of filet mignon and lobsters tails.

We are looking forward to the Pirate Party to be held on December 29th, the New Year's Eve Party, and the Cruiser's Regatta (that Different Drummer always seems to win) on the 30th and the Island Regatta on New Year's Day! Quite a lot of coming
activity.

I have to show off the necklace Bob gave me for Christmas this year. It is a sea bean with shell painted on it.
