Wednesday we left Highborne Cay at 8 in the morning and had a less than smooth crossing to Nassau. That is putting it mildly. Waves were 4-5 seas and 15 knot winds, worse because of the direction they were coming from. We made it into Nassau by 2 and had a ton of things to do. Bob had to go to the Marine store and I needed to do laundry. We went to a little restaurant nearby for Grouper Burgers. Bob made a store run, while I took a wonderful shower.
We had spent time giving the boat a bath to get the salt water off and cleaned up all the windows. At the marina, Bob heard from the next boater that a couple of days before he had been boarded during the night and that the person had entered his stateroom while he was sleeping and taken his pants into another room and removed the wallet. A similar thing happened to a couple in a sailboat at the marina. We always lock up at night here in Nassau (he had not). Otherwise, the rest of the Bahamas is very safe.
We met with Mike and Darlene, off Etoile, who also made the rather rough crossing to Nassau also for dinner. They will spend a few days here in Nassau and then head over to Spanish Wells before heading back over to Florida.
We plan on leaving Nassau today, stopping at Frazier’s Hog, then a night on the bank and then crossing to Ft. Lauderdale where we will try and get the generator fixed. The next post will be done in Florida.
We both look forward to exploring the Bahamas next year – there is so much more to see than we got to this year. Our only experience of the Bahamas before this was staying a week on Paradise Island adjacent to Nassau. We were not impressed because Nassau is like any big city with lots of traffic. They may need to limit the number of cars coming to the island. Our experience this year showed us the really beauty and piece of this group of islands. The people are wonderful, as is the food, especially if you love seafood.
I hope that I’ve peaked your interest in taking a trip like this sometime in your future.
