Black Point Settlement / Great Guana Cay

We had a nice weather window to move to Black Point Settlement on Great Guana Cay, just south of Staniel Cay. This island is known most by boaters for having the best laudromat in the area (well it is the only one between Nassau and George Town), Lorraine's Cafe, Adderly's Grocery, Deshamon's Restaurant, and Scorpio Bar. It is sort of the "bedroom community" for most of the workers on Staniel Cay, Compass Cay, and Sampson Cay. It has the largest school in the area with 37 students. Since we had books for the school, we made our annual trip to visit the school. Lorraine provided us with a golf cart to deliver our 8 boxes to the school.

One of the classes of students at the school.

We are always so impressed with how courteous and friendly the children are in the Bahamas. We also found it interesting that on a poster in the classroom was a listing of the Beatitudes, another showing the Golden Rule, and another with instructions for children on how to pray. There is no separation of church and state here.

Lorraine had a "surprise" this last year - a new son that they have named Joshua. He has become the "surrogate" grand-baby for all the boaters passing through Black Point.

A large group of our friends (12 in total) decided to go to Lorraine's Cafe for dinner. Prior to dinner, we all ended up at the happy hour at Scorpio's Bar across the street from Lorraine's.

Lorraine's Granddaughter who loved Bob and especially his hat!

Walking around Black Pointe, we found this boat which will be painted as the "New Federation" and raced in all the Bahamian regattas.
