Calabash Bay and Conception Island

We pulled out of the Stella Maris Marina and headed toward Conception Island with an overnight at Calabash Bay (North Long Island)on Monday. Turns out that the three other boats in the marina with us, Orca, Sunspot Baby, and Albino Wino, all left too. Orca and Sunspot Baby ended up anchoring for the night at Calabash Bay near us for the night. We met up again with Albino Wino at Conception Island on Tuesday.

Beautiful boat we passed along the way

The water at Calabash Bay was just gorgeous. It was nice and warm, clear as a bell, overlooking the Cape Santa Maria Resort. We had dinner with the folks on Orca at the resort Monday evening. Here are the photos we took of the shore around the bay.

Beautiful home along the coast

There are the Villas which are the new fully equipped two bedroom units still under construction.

These are the one story one and two bedroom units with screened in porch.

Oh Yeah - I'm lovin' it!

Tethered to the boat in Calabash Bay. The water was plum wonderful.

A glorious golden sunset on Calabash Bay

Leaving Calabash Bay, we saw this lovely home, currently closed up, with it's own beach.

Beautiful little "pocket" beaches accessible only by dinghy - if you can get there, it's all yours!

At the Northernmost point on the island, a spot where Columbus was to have landed, there is a monument. The road to the monument is horrible and undergoing repair, so we were not able to get to this by car when our neighbors were visiting.

It was a bit of a rough crossing, but worth it when we got to Conception Island. It is a "Land Park" owned by the Bahamas National Trust. That means you can fish there, just no taking of shells, no fires, or leaving of trash.

The interior of the island, had many creeks to explore by dinghy. This White Heron stood as sentry. We did see a group of turtles, but they were underwater and amazing fast, so I wasn't able to get any photos of them.

Following some other boaters into the interior creek to explore

Valt on Amber Isles has had great luck fishing while cruising between islands. He had caught several Mahi Mahi, more than his freezer would hold, so he gave one to Pirate who had a "fish fry." We were lucky enough to be invited to have some of Jim's great fried fish.

We really enjoyed the evening. Unfortunately, I woke up with an earache, so we headed back to Long Island where I could go to the clinic. We went back to the Stella Maris Marina for the night. At least it gave me an opportunity to post to the blog again.

Sunset at Stella Maris - it looked like the sun was melting into the water.
Good Night!

Your photographs look heavenly! Very envious of your gorgeous Bahamas water and weather as we suffer through drenching, cold April rains and spitting wind gusts up to 25 knots.
