We were met at the marina on Skidaway Island near Savannah, by friends, Mark and Shirley. Bob had worked with Mark for the Navy many years ago. They had moved to Skidaway following Mark's retirement from the Navy. They gave us a great tour of the island. It is a wonderful community with 6 golf courses, 4 club houses, 2 marinas, a shopping village, churches, and an assisted living, nursing care facility. It was quite a place. While driving around we saw a couple of rookeries where the surrounding bushes and trees were filled with white Egrets. I said they should put red bows on them for Christmas! Unfortunately, it was too overcast and late in the day to get a picture.
Mark and Shirley are very active in their community and church. They play golf quite a bit too. If you are a golfer or like to boat or sail and nearing retirement, I would recommend that you check out Skidaway Island.

(Yes, that is Bob on the left for some of you that have not seen him since retirement.)
Following the island tour, we had a wonderful dinner at their home on Skidaway. More great Southern Hospitality!
Mark has been involved the last several years with an Interfaith Hospitality Network, an organization dedicated to helping families. The Episcopal church they attend is one of the churches involved in the project. Homeless families stay at the churches at night, then they are taken by van to a day center where they can store belongings, take showers, and look for jobs or homes. IHN needed to raise $900,000 so that they could increase the number of families they could help from 3 to 6 families. Mark took on the task and put together a plan to reach this goal. On November 10, 2007, the grand opening of the center, named in his honor, was held. Quite an accomplishment for Mark and the group of people who worked on the project. So great to see that his organizing/financial management skills are not going to waste in retirement.
What a joy it has been to stop and visit friends along the way. We will anchor for the night on Friday. Bob and Penny
