Crossing the Gulf

Well, we did not have much of a sunset our last night in the Bahamas, but boy did we have a beautiful sunrise to see us off.

Sunrise at Cat Cay - Last Sunrise in the Bahamas this Trip

We were up early Saturday so that we could leave by 7. The seas were quite calm and the day warm and sunny. Bob put out a couple of fishing rods and we just sat back and eased across the Gulf. Arrival estimate for the crossing was 2 P.M. We left the bright turquoise waters of the Bahamas for the deep cobalt blue of the Gulf. With our speed of 9 knots and the wind of 10, we were traveling with the wind. This made the trip rather warm in the boat. Bob took a chair up top and watched from there. On the way over, we had seen few boats, on the way back we saw boats all around us most of the way. We certainly weren’t lonely.

We are a little early crossing back than what we had planned. We don’t need to be back at home till around the 17th of May, which means we would need to reach Florida around May 1st. We just want to get the generator fixed and we have to take advantage of weather windows when we can.

Bob yelled “Land Ho” around 10:25 and I went up to the pilot house to see the tops of the buildings in Florida as specks on the horizon. We left the clear blue skies of the Bahamas and arrived to overcast skies in Florida. I spotted this cruise ship leaving FL.

When we got to the Marina, there is a boat across from us called “One More Toy” we had just seen when we were leaving the Nassau Harbour. I guess it's a small world.

We finished docking into the marina in Dania, FL at 2:37. Now we can rest. Even the parrot needs a rest!

Penny, you haven't changed in the last 43 years! Beautiful pics! It looks like you and Bob are enjoying your retirement. Keep in touch!

Thanks Tonya, it's good to hear from you. This trip has been a dream come true for us. It's not too late to sign on as crew for next year's trip!
