Shroud Cay to Wardwick Wells

Pretty Penny at Wardwick Wells

Sunday, we left and headed to the main island of the Exuma Land and Sea Park, Wardwick Wells. We checked in on Sunday and I spent some time working on the blog. We have Internet WIFI here, just no cell phone coverage. Sure do miss my Verizon card! Someday, I expect that the Bahamas Telephone Co, (BATELCO) will put in WIFI off their towers. Now, the ones we find are run my marinas, a park office as is here at Wardwick, or some tech guy out of a shack (as in Georgetown). All the systems are Hughes Net, so speed can be iffy.

Monday, we went out to enjoy a beach that is here, but not on the parks map, so we always seem to have it to ourselves. We’re keeping it a secret.

Tuesday we climbed to the top of "Boo Boo Hill." You can see both sides of the island from here as well as having a great view of the mooring field. At the top, people are allowed to leave "evidence" of having made it there by leaving a piece of driftwood with your boat name on it. We didn't know about it last year, so we didn't have our driftwood sign there. We were ready this year.

We met up with Tom and Kathy on Perseverance, home ported in Burgess near us. We had first met them in Vero Beach, FL. We also met with a couple from Solomons, MD, Jean and Bill on Chapter III. Bill had spent 34 years in the Navy and Tom 6, so the guys had a lot in common. We had them over for a pot luck dinner. First we enjoyed the sunset on top of the boat first.

We had planned to play Mexican Train Dominos, but didn't manage to get around to that, so Bill and Jean invited us all over the next night for pot luck hors d'oeuvres and dominos. Great fun!

While working on the blog on Wednesday morning, all of a sudden Bob yelled "Sea Plane coming" so I grabbed the camera and headed topside. It turned out the man in charge of the park needed to go to Nassau to see a doctor, so he was going by Sea Plane. This is the easiest way to for the manager and his wife to leave the island.

This was an interesting sight. I watched these two cross through the mooring field all the way back to their boat. It was the closest thing I've seen to "walking on water." Be sure and double click on the photo to see it enlarged.

Good night
